DARBEMIA (Darbepoetin alfa) is a long-acting synthetic form of erythropoietin, a glycoprotein hormone that stimulates red blood cell production (erythropoiesis) in the bone marrow. It is produced using recombinant DNA technology and is structurally modified with additional sialic acid-containing carbohydrate chains, which extend its half-life compared to endogenous erythropoietin.
DARBEMIA

COMPOSITION:
Pre-filled syringes of Darbepoetin alfa is available in 40 mcg dose strengths. 40mcg/0.40ml
MODE OF ACTION:
Darbepoetin alpha works by mimicking a natural hormone called erythropoietin (EPO). It signals the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells, which helps treat anemia (low red blood cell count). This increases oxygen delivery throughout the body.
INDICATIONS
Darbemia is indicated for the treatment of
• Anemia with Chronic Renal Failure including patients on dialysis and patients not on dialysis
• Treatment of symptomatic anemia in adult cancer patients with non-myeloid malignancies receiving chemotherapy.
DOSAGE
For Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD):
CKD patients on dialysis: 0.45 mcg/kg IV or subcutaneously once weekly OR 0.75 mcg/kg every 2 weeks as appropriate
CKD patients not on dialysis: 0.45 mcg/kg IV or subcutaneously once every 4 weeks as appropriate
For Chemotherapy-Induced Anemia:
2.25 mcg/kg subcutaneously once weekly OR 500 mcg subcutaneously every 3 weeks
